GOLD MEDAL TRAINING CAMP SYSTEM
I have personally designed the Gold Medal Camp System so that you will learn and retain as much as possible. While college sponsored camps are often thrown together, Gold Medal Camp is very organized. Through a carefully planned sequence of instruction, unique drills, and review sessions, you will learn the techniques necessary to become a champion.
I will be present at ALL camps. I design the curriculum for every session, personally instruct many sessions, and am available for personalized instruction. I have made a commitment to coordinating the finest camp system in the world.
I have been an avid student of the sport since I was fourteen years old and made a commitment to becoming a State Champion. Since then I have trained year-round, experimenting with different techniques while drilling, wrestling, and coaching young wrestlers. While coaching at Penn State and Ohio State, I have had the privilege of working with some of the finest coaches and wrestlers in the nation. I have gone to training camps at the Olympic Training Center regularly since 1984. At these camps I trained with some of the best wrestlers in the world, expanding and polishing my repertoire daily. I also regularly analyze videotapes of State, NCAA, and Olympic Championships. I know and understand what it takes to become a Champion and am eager to share it with you.
I have carefully designed the entire technique curriculum so that everything you learn will be presented in an organized, systematic fashion. You will learn a system of wrestling—the same system that has made me and many other top wrestlers successful.
TAKEDOWNS – You will learn an array of set-up actions that will allow you to constantly pressure your opponent while always maintaining good position. Learn to attack your opponent in a variety of fashions from all angles using the inside step, knee spin, knee bounce, and low ankle mechanics of penetration. Our staff will also detail a variety of leg attack finishes so you can quickly and effectively finish your leg attacks both from your feet and when you get stuck on your knees.
If your opponent’s legs are back, you must work his head. You will learn the snap, shuck, head pull, and cross snap so you can wear your opponent down, open up your leg attacks &/or get his head down. You will learn a unique front headlock, cement job, cement mixer, whizzer & cobra series, as well as essential spin behind techniques, including the back hand and short drag. Many other counterattacks will be taught including the chestlock, bundled arms, spladle, and elevator series.
The slide by and throw by series will be carefully detailed, so you can score on the opponent who hangs on your collar. Advanced takedown techniques including throws, underhook attacks, two-on-one combinations, and low single attacks will also be covered.
My goal is for you to leave camp with a clear understanding of the takedowns you must master to excel, and the work ethic it will require to perfect them. I expect you to go home and develop into a takedown machine as so many past campers have.
Although takedowns are the most important and difficult area of wrestling to master, mat wrestling will NOT be neglected as it is at many other camps.
TOP POSITION – Emphasis will be on legs, tilts, & cradles, the most effective ways to turn a good opponent. Important breakdowns will be drilled as well as unique breakdowns to turns, including side headlock, inside ankle pretzel, and foot hook. You will learn to control and turn your toughest opponents. All nearfall techniques will be taught in extra small groups because the finer points are so important. Special sessions are offered for wrestlers particularly interested in advanced instruction on parallel legs, cradles, turks, and freestyle turns.
BOTTOM POSITION – Chain wrestling from the bottom position will be drilled daily. You will learn the finer points of the stand-up that will help you explode to your feet with back pressure for a quick escape, and you will develop a variety of second moves that can be used depending on your opponent's pressure. You will get to choose which reversal techniques you want expert instruction on and receive this instruction in extra small groups to learn the finer points. Special sessions are offered for wrestlers particularly interested in advanced instruction on granbys, head spins and counters to legs.
About Our Coaches
Ken has found success at all levels of competition, both as a competitor and a coach. After winning 2 State Championships and Outstanding Wrestler Awards, Ken culminated his prep career by winning Junior Nationals in both freestyle and Greco and the Junior World Championship.
While studying and training at PENN STATE, Ken was a 3x NCAA All-American, World Espoir Champion, Pan American Champion and U.S. Olympian.
Ken also excelled in the classroom as he became a 3X Academic All-American, graduating from Penn State with a 3.6 GPA.
Ken conducted summer day camps throughout college and started the Gold Medal Training System upon graduation from Penn State in 1989. During Ken's first 5 years conducting camps, he also coached at Ohio State and Penn State. During Ken's 3 years at OHIO STATE, he helped build the Buckeyes into a national powerhouse. OHIO STATE finished 4th and 5th in the 1991 and 1992 NCAA Championships, respectively, the program's best finishes in school history.
Coach Chertow returned to PENN STATE in 1992 and joined the Nittany Lion Coaching Staff. Ken's team won the National Dual Meet Championship and was 2nd in the NCAA Championships, PSU's best finish since 1953.
In 1994, Ken left college coaching to focus his time and energy on helping young people through his local wrestling school and to devote more time to developing his camp system. Many of Ken's wrestlers have excelled, winning State & National Championships.
Coach Chertow's dedication and skills, coupled with his commitment to surrounding his campers with the best possible staff in the nation, has made the Gold Medal Training Camp the most highly organized and successful camp system in the Nation. Ken's summer camp attracts and develops MANY CHAMPIONS.

GOLD MEDAL TRAINING CAMP (GM)
5 or 6 Day Options
This incredible camp involves a unique blend of technical instruction, intense drilling, live wrestling, and review sessions. Technique is emphasized and reinforced, not neglected as it is at many other intensive camps. You will be taught by many of our superstar clinicians and will learn far more than you would at a shorter camp.
The live wrestling sessions are very intense and competitive. During the past two seasons, Gold Medal Campers have won an impressive 74 State Championships, while over 300 campers have placed in their High School State Tournaments. This does not include all the future stars still in junior high school. Many of our campers use Gold Medal Camp to train for USA Wrestling, NHSCA and AAU Nationals, so we have special instructional and training groups for those interested in freestyle and Greco-Roman training. If you want to test yourself against the best in the nation, Gold Medal Training Camp is the place to do it.
PERSONALIZED TECHNIQUE CAMP (Tech)
4 or 5 Day Options
The Personalized Technique Camp is specifically designed for junior and senior high wrestlers with little to moderate experience. Our technique curriculum is carefully structured to present the most effective scoring techniques from all three positions in a systematic fashion to maximize retention. Techniques will be shown in a progressive sequence to promote learning and understanding of what works at all levels of competition. The wrestlers will have a designated coordinator from our Gold Medal Staff who will monitor each instructional session to review and expand upon the curriculum with each student. The wrestlers will be divided by age and experience as needed so that each wrestler is able to focus on the technical skills and tactics that they most need to improve upon. The base curriculum as designed by Coach Chertow will be comprised of the highest percentage techniques in wrestling, and they will be presented in a systematic fashion with emphasis on the finer teaching points. In addition to not only learning, but retaining a highly effective system of wrestling, Personalized Technique Camp Students will get to choose specific areas in which to receive advanced instruction. Although live wrestling is not a core component of the technique camp as it is with the Gold Medal Training Camp, participants will have the opportunity to participate in live wrestling during select sessions.
KIDS TRAINING CAMP (KT)
5 or 6 Day Options
A variation of the Gold Medal Training Camp that is designed for serious students entering grades 3-7. This is a step up from the Future Champions Camp for the hard core young wrestler. We specialize in training youth wrestlers far better than any other camp in the nation, and elementary school wrestlers from across the country come to train at Kids Training Camp.
FUTURE CHAMPIONS CAMP (FC)
